Police appeal following fatal collision on the Isle of Wight

Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses after a 50 year-old man has sadly died from injuries he was left with following a two vehicle collision on Saturday, March 14.

Mark Ward who was from Ryde was riding his Honda motorcycle west on Mersley Down, close to Mersley Lane, when he moved to overtake a car. Mr Ward’s bike was subsequently involved in a collision with a black Mazda2 which had been travelling in the opposite direction. Mr Ward was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.

Message from Mark’s wife
Mr Ward’s wife Julia has now released the following statement:

“Mark was a keen motorcyclist and loving husband. He sadly passed away following a tragic accident on 14 March on the Downs road. He was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, but two weeks later complications meant his health deteriorated.

“He will be greatly missed by myself, the whole family, and his many friends on the Isle of Wight.”
