Police appeal after man found unconscious in lay-by

Police are investigating after a 30-year-old man was found unconscious with head injuries in a lay-by in Fairlee Road, Newport.

The man was found at 12.35am on Saturday, February 21.

The man was treated at St Mary’s Hospital for injuries to his head which required stitches.

Man arrested and bailed
A 29-year-old man from Shanklin has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

He has been bailed until April 21 pending further enquiries.

Appeal to taxi drivers
Detective Constable Victoria Hayward said:

“We are keen to speak to any taxi drivers who had a fare from Newport to Ryde between 9.30 and 10pm on Friday, February 20 and Ryde to Newport later that night, arriving no later than 12.40am.

“We’d also like to hear from any residents who may have witnessed an incident between the Southern Water entrance and the entrance to Island Harbour after midnight.”
