Police investigate report of an attempted abduction (updated)

Update 11am: Following further enquiries, police are now satisfied that an alleged attempted abduction on the Isle of Wight did not take place.  

We’d like to reassure the public that the allegation was taken seriously and thoroughly investigated, however we are certain that no offences were committed.


Police on the Isle of Wight are investigating a report from an 18 year old woman who has told officers she was approached by a man, driving a van.

It happened as she walked along Green Lane, Shanklin at around 10pm on Saturday November 15.

The man tried to get the woman to go with him, but she pushed the man off and he left.

Officers are now working with the woman to establish the facts and surrounding circumstances that led to this report.

Police wish to reassure the public that the situation is being investigated.
