Police investigation after £12,000 worth of items stolen from Sandown hotel

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a man entered the Ocean Hotel on Sandown Esplanade on Friday, August 23 and stole over £12,000 worth of items from three of the guest rooms.

Amongst the property stolen were a large quantity of ladies jewellery, including several heavy gold and diamond bracelets, a large stoned ruby and diamond high set ring, a Chopard gold floating diamond necklace, a topaz necklace, ring and earrings, several pairs of diamond earrings, two mobile phones and a digital hand held motion camera.

Description of suspect
The suspect is described as white, aged between 40 – 50 years, slim build, skinny face with black hair which is longer on top and greying around the sides.

He was wearing a short sleeve light coloured – possibly blue shirt and blue jeans

Investigating Officer, DC Victoria Hayward said:

“This is a very rare occurrence during a busy bank holiday weekend and we are asking members of the public or businesses who have an interest in buying or selling jewellery to be on the lookout for someone trying to sell this rare and unusual jewellery. Some items may not be hallmarked as they were purchased abroad.”
