Police target wrong address in drugs raid

Drugs raid

Police are investigating how they managed to target the wrong address in Ryde during yesterday’s drugs raids, Operation Swordtail.

An address on Swanmore Road was incorrectly entered by police.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said,

“Officers carrying out drugs warrants on the Isle of Wight on Wednesday, November 27 briefly entered an address in Ryde where no crimes had been suspected during the planning of this operation.

“No one was arrested or injured. The officers left the address in Swanmore Road promptly.

“An officer returned to the house later in the day to apologise to the resident.

“We are reviewing the circumstances of this warrant to confirm the reasons for what happened.”

Following the raids, seven men from the Island were charged with various drug offences.
