Police witness appeal after alleged assault at Newport

Police at Newport are appealing for information from witnesses who saw an assault at Newport bus station on Monday afternoon, January 28.

Sometime between 2.50 and 3.10pm, an older man is alleged to have punched a younger Newport man, 24, in the face.

The victim was left with a bloody nose.

Witness appeal
PC Alan Spence said there were many people in and around the bus station at the time of the alleged assault.

“We need to hear from anyone who heard words exchanged between the two men or who saw an assault,” PC Spence said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Spence at Newport on 101.

Man arrested
A 43-year-old Newport man was arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed, pending police enquiries, until February 11.
