Portrait of a Sheepdog Trial goer: Photos by Simon Avery

Last updated:

Last weekend saw an incredible turnout for the Isle of Wight Sheepdog Trials (did you see our article last week?), with spectators increasing to what seemed like ten times the amount in 2022.

Saturday saw more than 1,700 people attend the event and when we arrived at midday on Sunday, more than 1,200 had already been counted in.

This year the event included a much larger hospitality offering, including a Goddards beer tent and more food options, as well as several stalls of local artisanal producers such as Erik Phipps the weaver and sculptor of wood, who had some great designs on show. Donations were collected for Mountbatten – we’ll share the total once it’s all been tallied up.

Portraits captured at the event
We spent a lazy afternoon in the sun, watching the superb sheepdog action whilst catching up with the latest news from friends over a pint or two of Goddards beer.

Friend of News OnTheWight, Simon Avery, couldn’t resist capturing the event in photos which he shares with readers below. If you recognise anyone in the photos, let them know about it – we’re sure you’ll agree Mr A has done a superb job.
