Ventnor Town Council have agreed to use some of their surplus funds to purchase and install a life-saving defibrillator in the centre of the town.
The two GP surgeries in Ventnor hold defibrillators and there is also one available on the seafront (on the Lifeguard’s hut), but there is currently nothing in the centre of town outside surgery hours.
Spearheaded by local councillor
The project has been driven by Cllr Jim Toogood, who’s researched the need for an additional defibrillator in the town.
Season’s (the newsagent and Post Office) have given permission for the Defibrillator to be installed on their external wall in the centre of town (opposite the Boots bus stop).
The cost to purchase, fit, relocate the noticeboard, and train 12 volunteers in the machine’s use comes to a total of £2,127. The town council were advised this figure is affordable because of a surplus accumulated during the financial year.
Town councillors voted unanimously to go ahead with the initiative.
