Properties in Cowes without water as workmen repair burst water main

Update 4.22
The water is now back on for all residents

Ten properties in Cowes have been without water this morning following a burst water main.

Southern Water crews have been in Newport Road since 9.45am repairing the burst water main and confirm that ten properties have been without water since 10.20am, after the supply was shut off to carry out the repairs.

A spokesperson for Southern Water went on to say,

“We’re working as fast as we can to repair the pipe and restore supplies and we’d like to apologise to all those affected.”

Iron oxide ‘nothing to worry about’
They went on to say,

“Some customers may notice discoloured water coming from their taps. If you experience this, run your kitchen tap for a couple of minutes and it should run clear.

“This discoloration is caused by sediment (iron oxide) which collects on the inside of iron water mains and can be dislodged by a disturbance to the pipe, such as a burst. It is nothing to worry about.”
