QEII Field Status For Isle of Wight Playing Fields

Church Litten:The Isle of Wight Playing Fields Association (IWPFA) have the responsibility to Protect and Preserve playing and recreation areas for future generations.

With this role in mind, they have been discharging this responsibility on the Island, by working with various sports clubs and local Town and Parish Councils to save sports pitches and recreation areas in East Cowes, Shanklin, Ryde and Freshwater. In all cases we they have had positive results. Other cases have been sent to us for investigation and work.

QEII Field status
In this, the Jubilee year, the association have worked closely with the Isle of Wight Council to have four fields nominated for QEII Field status which will mean that all of them will have Deeds of Dedication to preserve them from development in perpetuity.

Each Field will have a Jubilee Plaque installed.

Victoria Recreation Ground
The first of these fields to be dedicated will be Victoria Recreation Ground in East Cowes, when the plaque will be unveiled on Saturday 4th August at 10.30am by the Mayor of East Cowes, Jane Rann.

This event will coincide with the Fun Day being held by the Pavilion on the field. The Playing Field Association will be participating in the event.

Simeon Recreation Field
The second field will be Simeon Recreation Field in Ryde.

This plaque will be unveiled by the Mayor of Ryde, David Woodward on Saturday 11th August at 11am.

Church Litten
The third field is Church Litten in Newport.

The plaque for this field will be unveiled by Major General Martin White the Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight on Saturday 1st September at 11am in the presence of the Chair of the Newport Town Council Mary Craven

All of the dedications will involve Town or Parish councillors, County Councillors and local Churches plus other dignitaries.

Other PFA events
On Thursday 18th October, the Association will be holding a Golf Day at Osborne Golf Club.

The format will be an 18 hole Stableford Competition with prizes for shot nearest to the pin and the longest drive. All Island golfers will be invited to participate. However, the are association is looking for a sponsor to enable us to reduce the cost for the participants.

At the end of November, we will be holding a grand Christmas Quiz which will be open to all sports clubs and other supporters.
