Queen’s Award For Friends Of Shanklin Theatre Volunteers

Thanks to Peter for sharing the great news. Shanklin Theatre is not the only Isle of Wight organisation to benefit from the award this year – more to follow on the others shortly. In his own words. Ed

Shanklin TheatrePeter Coleman, Chair of FOST following the announcement that the Friends of Shanklin Theatre had been awarded the ‘Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service’ said, “This award is recognition of the many hours of work often unsung that has been spent in first protecting this fine Victorian building by obtaining Listed Building status.

“Then refurbishing and renewing the fabric of the theatre and finally involving the community in it’s future.”

Big shows and community groups
He went on to say, “We are proud that in addition to the return of the big shows to Shanklin, twenty three community and local groups will be using the theatre this year.

“This week was also an excellent example of a new generation using the theatre, when a thousand school children attended two shows especially arranged for them as an introduction to live theatre.

“Our volunteers old and new, will be delighted that this prestigious award is coming to Shanklin Theatre. It will help as a reward for the work done, but as importantly will act as an inspiration to maintain the momentum to make Shanklin Theatre the premier entertainment centre on the Island.”
