Rachel Day: Five things you shouldn’t miss at Bestival

Rachel will be busking in the queues going into Bestival today and tomorrow morning. Ed

With so many brilliant acts on at Bestival it was difficult to pick just five not to miss!

The Ohmz, Signals, Southern Big Man, In Motion, Skinny Lister, Ruby and the Rib Cage, Guy Page Trio, The Chancers, Blackhouse Crow, Daughter, Dr Jones and the Blunt Instruments, Tankus the Henge, Cherishport are all bound to put on a brilliant show and leave you with the feeling you’ve experienced something Bestival special. I could have happily recommended any of them.

However, you said five and so here they are…

1. Weatherkings (1:40pm Friday The Bandstand) – If you like your music mad and beautiful Weatherkings will tick both boxes – and many more – with absolute aplomb. Lyrical, interactive, improvised FUN(k)!

2. Moulettes (11:15pm Friday Swamp Shack) – Saw them live at The Bedford last year, compelling to watch, great stage presence and highly entertaining performance. Strings, harmonies, and stomping rhythm.

3. Ben Howard (1:25pm Saturday Big Top) – I’m sure this is a show that will attract a big crowd this year but for anyone who hasn’t heard him yet, make time to stick your head round the Big Top door; I’ve seen him live several times and haven’t been disappointed.

4. Son of Dave (11:15pm Saturday Swamp Shack) – First saw Son of Dave live at the fantastic Rhythmtree festival in 2011 and subsequently discovered it was apparently he who inspired KT Tunstall to use a loop pedal. Incredible one man show.

5. Michael Kiwanuka (2:40pm Sunday Big Top) – A now familiar name on the acoustic scene, this man’s music is sublime. He’s touring internationally so I don’t want to miss this chance to see him play on my home Island.

Set times taken from Clashfinder so check the Bestival programme to confirm (when they announce times!)
