Rainbows playing hobbyhorse polo

Rainbows unite for a regal day: Crowns, hobbyhorses and a royal salute

Hobbyhorse polo matches fit for the King were played out at the Rainbows County Fun Day.

To celebrate the Coronation, Rainbows from across the Island enjoyed making crowns, Maypole dancing, singing and games as well as making Hobbyhorses ready for the polo matches and a Royal Gallop past the saluting base which took place during the afternoon.

Sanders-Steel: Making new friends whilst learning new skills
Organised by Donna Sanders-Steel, Assistant Island Commissioner and other leaders, the day also included a visit from the King – Mr Kingfisher from 11th Newport Rainbows – and, of course, Coronation Cakes.

Donna said,

“It is wonderful that so many Island Rainbows got together for this special event.

“It gave the girls a chance to meet new friends, as well as having fun and learning new skills.”

The King

Proved very popular with all Rainbows
Dozens of girls attended the event, which was held at Newport’s Victoria Recreation Ground. This event proved very popular with all the Rainbows (members of Girlguiding aged 4-7), giving them a further insight into what to expect for the Coronation.

It is hoped that a video of the Polo matches will be sent to His Majesty King Charles and Queen Camilla.
