Congratulations to Red Funnel, who in its 150th year, have this morning been awarded the prestigious environmental accreditation ISO 14001:2004, by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).
Red Funnel tell us that they’ve been towards the accreditation since achieving the quality standards accreditation ISO 9001:2008 back in 2008.
What does it mean?
If you’re as baffled as we were as to what the ISO 14001:2004 accreditation means, it relates to environmental management standard.
The accreditation is given to companies whose “operations minimise their impact on the environment, comply with all applicable laws, regulations and environmental standards and are focused on continual improvements to environmental sustainability”.
Second company to be certified for ISO 14001
Sir Alan Massey, Chief Executive Officer, MCA said, “I am delighted to be able to present this Award of ISO 14001 to the Red Funnel Group. Red Funnel Group is only the second company to be certified for ISO 14001 by our Quality Assurance department. We are the only flag state which offers this service to the clients. ”
He wasn’t the only one who was chuffed with the news, Red Funnel’s CEO, James Fulford said, “Our team has worked tirelessly to gain this highly prestigious accreditation, making us one of the few ferry companies in Europe to have achieved this standard. As a group we are committed to ensuring that our impact on the environment is minimal and this achievement shows that our procedures work and will continue to evolve in the future.”
Three cheers all round!
