Red Funnel terminal evacuated due to suspect package (updated)

Passengers on the Red Jet were been told this morning that their vessel will be docking at an alternative berth due to a suspect package at Terminal 2.

The incident caused delays on the RedJet service.

A spokesperson from Red Funnel said,

“Red Funnel’s ferry terminal at Terminal 2, Town Quay Southampton was evacuated at 09.15 this morning following the discovery of a suspicious bag.

“The Red Jet service was temporarily moved to Terminal 1 with no impact on the Hi-Speed timetable. Terminal 2 reopened at 10.10 hrs.”

Police told OnTheWight,

“Police received a report at 9am this morning (Wednesday, July 6), after staff at the Red Funnel ferry terminal at Town Quay, located a suspicious package.

“Red Funnel staff evacuated the terminal and a police cordon was put in place.

“A police search advisor attended the scene with a specially trained explosives dog. The dog did not indicate any explosives in the package. The package was looked at by our officer who confirmed the item was an empty rucksack.

“The police cordons have been taken down.”
