Mountbatten Isle of Wight, the Island’s only hospice, warmly invites the community to take part in ‘Remembering with Ribbons’—a heartfelt way to honour and remember loved ones whilst supporting the hospice’s vital work.
This summer, Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s award-winning Chelsea Garden in Halberry Lane, Newport, will be transformed with vibrant yellow and orange ribbons, each one symbolising a cherished memory and tribute to those we love who have died.

From 4th July to 31st August, all are welcome to donate and dedicate a ribbon in memory of someone they miss, with several ways to participate:
- Attend the celebration event: Donate online and visit Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s Chelsea Garden in Halberry Lane, Newport on Sunday, 20 July, from 10am to 12pm, for a special gathering featuring music, readings, and refreshments.
- Tie a ribbon in your own time: Donate online and visit Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s Chelsea Garden at your convenience to tie a ribbon, reflect and remember.
- Let Mountbatten Isle of Wight tie a ribbon for you: If you’re unable to visit, donate online, and ask Mountbatten’s team to tie a ribbon on your behalf.
Debs’ tribute to her husband, Simon
For Debs Goodenough, Remembering with Ribbons is a way to honour her husband, Simon, who was cared for by Mountbatten Isle of Wight. Debs says,
“Tying a ribbon in Mountbatten’s garden is a way to remember Simon, to say his name, and feel connected to others who are also remembering someone they love.
“When Simon was dying, Mountbatten surrounded us with love and care. We were able to create lasting memories, and I could be his wife again, not just his carer.”

Simon’s story is a testament to the compassionate care Mountbatten provides—not just for patients but for their families, too.
