‘Return to Sport’ in The New Year: Book Now

After the excesses of the festive period, it’s possible that many people will be considering doing something more active with their spare time.

'Return to Sport' in The New Year: Book NowSo rather timely then that the Isle of Wight Council tell us their ‘Return to Sport’ courses will be starting up again in January.

Residents are being encouraged to try something new or perhaps return to a sport they haven’t practiced for a while. There’s lots on offer and all pretty affordable.

What’s on offer
Here’s what the tell us …..

First up in January is an eight week badminton course which begins on 21 January at Ryde Sports Centre. The course costs just £12 per person and takes place every Thursday between 1900 – 2000.

For the first time, a snooker course is available from 25 January. Again an eight week course, the sessions will be held at Gunville’s Ambassador Snooker Club every Monday from 1800 – 2000 and costs £16 per person.

With Andy Murray continuing to do so well in tennis, the sport returns for a six week course from 27 January. It costs just £12 per person and takes place at Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club between 1300 – 1400 each Wednesday.

An eight week Yoga (integral hatha) course takes place at Niton Methodist Church from Wednesday 27 January between 1930 – 2045. The cost is £16 per person, although it won’t be held on 10 February.

Finally, an eight week netball course will take place at Carisbrooke High School from Thursday 28 January. It costs £12 per person.

Support for Tri-golf Junior Academy
Meanwhile, Isle of Wight Council with support from Sport England and National Lottery funding, is putting on an eight week Tri-golf Junior Academy in the West Wight from 25 January.

It’s for children aged 6 – 11 only and takes place at West Wight Sports Centre every Monday between 1630 – 1730. All equipment including clubs are provided and it costs £10 per person.
