New Foo Fighters’ tribute band, Something From Nothing, headlined the first, very successful gig held by Devil’s Isle Events, raising over £100 for the Isle of Wight Youth Trust.
With high energy and a charismatic stage presence, they belted out popular Foo’s hits including a mental ‘Monkey Wrench’, intense ‘Best of You’ and a beautiful version of ‘Everlong’.
At times, it really was like watching the real Foo Fighters, especially with singer Seb Clark’s resemblance to Dave Grohl and the genuine passion the entire band have for the songs.
With four guitars and a drummer, they filled the tiny stage at The 1st Floor with incredible noise and by the end of their set they had everyone up dancing and headbanging!
All Hail King Kuna
They were supported by King Kuna who get louder and heavier with every gig they play.
All accomplished musicians, they make a deliciously heavy and seductive sound, incredible for a three piece.
Their songwriting is maturing, with their latest song, about ‘Billy’, expressing social commentary on the current political situation in Britain.
No Sound Effects
No Sound Effects fronted by the fabulous Alisha Blue played a selection of crowd pleasers from Imagine Dragons, Pink, Ed Sheeran and 30 Seconds to Mars.
Alisha Blue is a striking front woman with her vibrant, shocking turquoise hair and beautiful, soulful voice.
The band’s rendition of ‘The Kill’ was sublime with perceptive Blue knowing when to hold back with subtlety and when to belt out with controlled power.
The band also showcased original song, ‘Dysfunctional’ showing their talent as lyricists as well as musicians. Alternative teenagers will relate to this modern anthem about the trials and tribulations of growing up against the norm.
‘Perfect’
No Sound Effects then welcomed Devil’s Isle Events’ and headliner Something from Nothing’s Seb Clark onto the stage for a rendition of Pink’s ‘Perfect’. Wearing his flat cap and heavily tattooed, he has a great stage presence and his harmonies blended exquisitely with Blue’s on this heartfelt ballad.
Blue’s voice is beautiful and the instantly likeable and humble 18 year old who chats away between songs has an intelligent and inherent vocal ability.
Learn Jam Perform
The night was launched by the talented young performers from Learn Jam Perform.
LJP is held at The 1st Floor every Tuesday night and run by Jay Fletcher, giving aspiring musicians the opportunity to perform live in a friendly and nurturing environment.
Next event
The Island is brimming with musical talent and Devil’s Isle Events is passionate about showcasing it.
Their next event is planned for October, but if you can’t wait until then, Seb Sebotage Clark is playing Ventnor Fringe Festival on Tuesday 9 August and Wednesday 10 August.
