A delegated decision has been made today by Cabinet member for Children’s Services and Education, Cllr Dawn Cousins, on the council’s Corporate Parenting Strategy.
Corporate Parenting is when the council look after children and young people who cannot be cared for by their own parents.
Papers released last week (embedded below for your convenience) reveal an update to the existing corporate parenting strategy that was endorsed by full council in October 2010.
The 2011 update includes:
- Incorporates the revised legal framework for Looked After Children (LAC), which came into force on 1st April 2011, including revised regulations and statutory guidance on care planning and Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) functions.
- Ensures that health, education organisations and other partners work together to achieve good corporate parenting at every level.
- Refreshes the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders to children in care
- Incorporates the proposed, revised structure and terms of reference of the corporate parenting board; to include a strategic board and three action subgroups.
- Outlines a more streamlined and time-bound process that has the weight of officer time firmly tilted towards delivering improvements rather than reporting performance.
