Thanks to one of VB’s younger writers, Shania Steele, for her report from the weekend’s match between East Cowes and Rew Valley U12s football teams. In her own words. Ed
On a bright and sunny day, Rew Valley were playing East Cowes at their ground.
With the first game of the season and for some of them, the first 11-a-side game on the big pitch, how would they cope?
Rew Valley started well and made the most of the ball by scoring in the fourth minute.
East Cowes come back with a goal
East Cowes soon responded in the ninth minute when they scored a goal. In the fourteenth minute, East Cowes scored again to make the score 2-1 to the home side. Half time arose with the score 2-1.
The second half started and Rew Valley burst into life. They passed the ball fluently and gave East Cowes a fright. In the fifty-third minute, after some pressuring attack from Rew Valley, an East Cowes player kicked the ball into the back of his own net bringing a goal for Rew Valley.
This brought the score level to 2-2.
Final push for winning goals
With this goal, Rew Valley charged up and down the field to try and get the winning goal. With a free kick being awarded to East Cowes on the outside of the box, unfortunately for Rew Valley, they scored. The game finished this way and the final score was 3-2.
There were many positive aspects to this game. Being the first match on the big pitch for some players, playing a team with one year’s experience of the ‘big pitch’ game was very challenging. This was a very good result for them. This was all about learning the new style of play and hope the result is better next week.
Final Score: East Cowes 3 Rew Valley 2
