Rew Valley Under 11s Match Report

Thanks again to Ventnor teenager, Shania Steele for her match report. Ed

On a bright, sunny and warm day, Rew Valley Under 11s faced Newport Under 11s at Ventnor Middle School.

Rew Valley vs Newport Under 11sAs Newport were the current League and cup champions, things were looking a bit uncertain in the Rew Valley crowd, but how would they play on the day?

Surprisingly, Rew Valley had a lot of the ball in the first few minutes creating the first chances of the game which was an honour in itself.

Newport scored in the 19th minute
With Antony Kettell creating many opportunities throughout the first half, all the supporters thought it must be coming. Unfortunately, Newport broke the deadlock in the 19th minute with a goal which caught us all by surprise.

Travis Steptoe, George Hyde, Declan Morgan Philips and Callum Steele provided fabulous class in their defending during the match giving Newport a hard time shooting at goal. Newport scored their second goal of the match in the 29th minute.

Endless chances created by Rew Valley
As I commented earlier, the amount of chances created by the Valley were endless and the goal certainly came right on the stroke of half time by Antony Kettell who certainly deserved the goal and finished it in style. Half time came at the score of 1-2.

After an inspirational team talk, Rew Valley went back onto the field believing they could win the game.

Despite this, Newport scored a goal in the first minute leaving Rew Valley shocked. Soon after, Newport scored another two goals to bring the scoreline to 1-5.

Callum Ryan, Jake Ferguson and Jack Croad played great in their roles giving Newport something to think about. Despite brilliant play by Rew Valley, they were unable to score the goals needed to get some points from the game. Bailey Exposite continued his phenomenal goal keeping with fantastic saves all the way through the match. Full time came with the score 1-5 to Newport.

Rew Valley only team to score against Newport
An unfortunate result for the Valley as they deserve a better result than what they got. We have been told by the Newport team that Rew Valley has been the only team that have scored more than one goal against them throughout this season! That is an achievement.

This result came from the earlier meeting this season at Newport’s ground with the score 15-3 to Newport. Well, Rew Valley should be proud as they played superbly today and certainly one of the best games they have played this season.

Scores on the doors

Man of the Match: The whole team but to single out, Travis Steptoe
