Following our earlier article regarding the Rhodes men’s football team, this official release just in from the International Island Games Executive. Ed

On Monday 27 June arising from a match involving Jersey and Rhodes Men’s football, the Official’s report and other evidence have resulted in the International Island Games Association, following consultation with the football management and technical committees, deciding that events were of such severity and in breach of recognised codes of conduct, that the following decisions are to take immediate effect :

  • An on-going Games suspension for the Rhode’s player that was involved in an incident involving the 4th Official
  • An immediate suspension from the current football competition and the two following Games, 2013 and 2015 for the men’s Rhodes football team
  • The Game between Rhodes and Menorca scheduled for 7pm this evening is cancelled

It is with great regret that such decisions were needed to be made in order to retain the confidence and international integrity of the ‘friendly’ Games.
