Road closures in Ryde for upgrade

Gavin shares this latest news from Island Roads. Ed

Stroudwood Road in Ryde is being upgraded in a three-week major scheme by Island Roads.

During work, the 1.4km section between Upton Road and Newnham Road will be closed around the clock in order to let the material being used to upgrade the surface time to set.

Residents will have access outside the working times and work will cease over the Bank Holiday and the period of the IW Festival in order to ensure there is no work undertaken on the strategic routes during this busy period.

Three phased approach
To minimise disruption, the work will be done in three phases: Upton Road to Stroud Farm, Stroud Farm to 400 metres from Newnham Road and the last 400 metre stretch to Newnham Road itself.

Residents have been informed of the work as have Southern Vectis.

Island Roads project manager Derek Benfield said:

“In certain locations, we use a material that needs time to set before it can take heavy traffic. This is one such site and therefore it is necessary to introduce a round-the-clock closure for the duration of the work.

“This will inevitably lead to some inconvenience and we would like to thank road users and residents in advance for their patience while we deliver what will be a significant improvement to the quality of this busy road.”

The scheme is scheduled to be completed on June 20. The diversion route during the closure is Newnham Road, A3054 Binstead Hill and Binstead Road, Pellhurst Road and Upton Road.
