Many thanks to the OnTheWight reader who sent us this photo of the surfacing work carried out over the last few days in Park Close, Gunville.

I saw this funny sight yesterday in Park Close in Gunville. Not sure my photo will be good enough but maybe you would like to send someone round to take a better one.
This photo shows why people on the Isle of Wight have doubts about the standards of the road resurfacing and resurfacers….. It really is laughable that as a van was left parked on the roadside the workers tarmacked around it :)
We were told this morning that the van has now moved.
We’ve just written to Island Roads for the comment on it and will add it when we hear back. (Now received and added below)
Update 15:37
Van owner’s story
Thanks to the partner of the van owner who got in touch with the following :- OnTheWight.
This is my partner’s van and we live down this road. We were out all day due to staying out the night.
Firstly, yes, they did put a sign out on Broadwood Lane stating that they would be doing that road on the 3/8/13 but did not turn up. Apparently they did show on Sunday the 4/8/13, but too late for us to know about it as we’d gone out on the Saturday night with no knowledge of their plans.
Secondly, yes, they had put yellow signs up at the top of Park close to say they would be doing work but did NOT state what day they would be starting. If they had we would have moved it!
When we arrived home Sunday evening they had put up signs saying not to park on the road from 8am-6pm. Shame they didn’t put the signs up sooner!! We would have complied. Also they have the whole Estate to do so why didn’t like start on a different cul de sac, and come back! And I would also like to say they have done a pretty shoddy job too!
Update from Island Roads received 6.Aug.13 11:28
Keith Gourlay, Construction Manager of Island Roads said “A household letter drop was carried out and signage was placed on the roads to notify residents of these impending works and we wish to thank those residents who did move their vehicles. We did make every effort to find the owner of the vehicle in question but were unable to get it moved on this occasion.
“As asphalt is such a pliable material, it is perfectly normal to surface around one vehicle and return at a later date to finish it off, which is what we did on Monday. We will see if there is any way we can improve the notice period and methods but we would ask that residents please adhere to our advanced warnings and letter drops about planned works to avoid this situation in the future. “
