COWES:
High Street / Sun Hill Vehicular access along Cowes High Street will be restricted in a southbound direction from 10am this morning (Tuesday 13 May 2014) for approximately two weeks due to urgent works required to stabilise the site of The Three Crowns Pub in High Street by Ryde Demolition. This is essential work to protect the safety of pedestrians and vehicles using Cowes High Street in the future. It follows a survey by IW Council’s building control surveyors that found the long-derelict building to be unsafe. Scaffolding will be erected from 10am to help to stabilise the derelict building. This scaffolding and hoarding will physically restrict vehicles travelling southbound along the High Street from Market Hill to Fountain Quay. During the closure the alternative route for traffic will be;
High Street, Bath Road, The Parade, Castle Hill, Baring Road, Ward Avenue, Park Road, Terminus Road, Union Road and Sun Hill. The diversion route will be in place with the one-way being reversed in Sun Hill with traffic travelling east bound on Sun Hill and southbound on the High Street. Site conditions are restrictive and therefore drivers of larger vehicles should seek to find alternative loading and unloading points. Esplanade will be closed from 2.30pm on Friday 25 April 2014 for the foreseeable future between 375 metres to the northeast of Cambridge Road and the end of the highway 860 metres to the northeast of Cambridge Road. There is no alternative route for traffic. This closure is necessary to avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the road due to a landslip. Cameron Close will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7am on Monday 18 November 2013 until 7am on Monday 18 May 2015 between the northern boundary of number 2 (45 metres north of the junction with Camp Road) and the end of the surfaced highway (110 metres to the northeast of Camp Road). The closure is required for the demolition of existing buildings and construction of a new development by Stoneham Construction Ltd. There is no alternative route for vehicular traffic. A temporary one-way restriction will be in operation in Landguard Road in a northbound direction from 8am on Monday 19 May until 1pm on Tuesday 27 May 2014. The restriction will be between Collingwood Road and Carter Avenue and is required for cable works by CCN Communication for British Telecom. The alternative route for all traffic (travelling in a southbound direction is: Carter Avenue, Brook Road and Collingwood Road. ST LAWRENCE:
A3055 Undercliff Drive will remain closed from St Catherine’s Road to Seven Sisters Road (Western Junction), between Barrington Lodge, near to the western junction with Seven Sisters Road and Mirables which is located about a mile towards Niton. Following significant ground movement in the area in early February 2014, Undercliff Drive has been physically closed between Mirables (in the west) and a point 560 metres to the West of Seven Sisters Road (in the east) for safety reasons. There is now no access for vehicles or pedestrians. The Isle of Wight Council, working with partner agencies including Island Roads and with support from the army, led an operation in February to help residents of nine properties in Undercliff Drive
(in an area known as ‘Woodlands’) remove possessions from their homes after they were advised to leave for safety reasons. A formal road and footpath closure will be in operation from Saturday 15 February for the foreseeable future. Island Roads’ work in the road has been suspended and the road will remain closed until the ground has stabilised and further monitoring can be carried out to determine its future.
