Roadworks and road closures for week starting 27th January

ALUM BAY:
Alum Bay New Road will be closed to all vehicles over 6ft 6in in width from The Access Road to Headon Hall Cottages to the end of the publically maintainable highway (at the entrance to Needles Pleasure Park) between 7am on Friday 3 January 2014 and approx. mid February 2014.

The temporary 6ft 6in width restriction is required until urgent carriageway repair works have been undertaken (as a result of recent excessive rain).
There is no alternative route for vehicles over 6ft 6in in width whilst the restriction is in operation.

Priority traffic working will be required.

To enable repair works to be completed a full road closure will be necessary for approx. 2-3 days between Monday 3 February and Friday 10 February 2014 from The Access Road to Headon Hall Cottages to the end of the publically maintainable highway (at the entrance to Needles Pleasure Park).

The dates of this closure will be confirmed in the next 24 hours.

BINSTEAD:
A3054 Binstead Hill junction with Quarr Hill / Newnham Road / Church Road.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 4pm on Wednesday 29 January, and Thursday 30 January 2014 for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads.

Traffic delays will occur.

A3054 Binstead Hill (outside 1 Berwick Cottages, between Chapel Road and Arnold Road).
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 4pm on Monday 27 January 2014 for the installation of a new water meter by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water.

BRADING:
A3055 New Road / High Street (from Yarbridge Crossroads to Quay Lane).
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 7.30pm and 11pm on Wednesday 29 January and Thursday 30 January 2014 for gully cleansing works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

A3055 New Road (from Wrax Road to The Mall).
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 7.30pm and 11pm on Wednesday 29 January and Thursday 30 January 2014 for gully cleansing works by Island Roads.
Traffic delays will occur.

A3055 Rowborough Lane/ Beaper Shute junction with Carpenters Road.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am on Friday on Friday 24 January until approx. 4pm on Friday 31 January 2014 for emergency high voltage electric cable repair works by Scottish & Southern Energy.
Traffic delays will occur.

CARISBROOKE:
B3341 High Street junction with Clatterford Road / Gunville Road (at Waverley Crossroads).
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 20 January until approx. 4pm on Monday 27 January 2014 for urgent building repair works by JT Building Contractors Ltd.

Traffic delays will occur, especially at peak times.

COWES:
Mill Hill Road (opposite 11). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 20 January until approx. 5pm on Friday 24 January 2014 for the installation of new electric connection by Scottish & Southern Energy.
Traffic delays will occur.

EAST COWES:
Maresfield Road will be closed from 8am on Friday 13 September 2013 until 6pm on Monday 3 February 2014 between Old Road and the entrance to Maresfield Road Car Park (approx. 65 metres from Cambridge Road junction for reconstruction works by Walker Construction for Peter Brett Associates.

Access to Maresfield Road Car Park will be maintained from the Cambridge Road direction.

DIVERSION ROUTE: Old Road and Cambridge Road. The closures are required for reconstruction of Maresfield Road.

Benton Close will be closed from 6.30am until 6pm on approximately 3 to 5 days between Monday 27 January 2014 and Friday 14 February 2014 from Sylvan Avenue to a point 50 metres to the southwest. The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads. There is no alternative route for traffic.

FRESHWATER:
Copse Lane will be closed from 6.30am on Monday 6 January until approx. 6pm on Thursday 30 January 2014 .The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads. At present the road is closed 24hours a day due to difficult ground conditions. It is hoped to open the road over the weekend if possible.

The closure will be in operation in various locations between Hooke Hill and A3054 Halletts Shute.

The diversion route will be: Hooke Hill, School Green Road, A3055 Tennyson Road, A3055 The Avenue, A3054 Colwell Road and A3054 Hill Lane, Pixley Hill. Further updates will follow in the next few days.

Cameron Close will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7am on Monday 18 November 2013 until 7am on Monday 18th May 2015 between the northern boundary of number 2 (45 metres north of the junction with Camp Road) and the end of the surfaced highway (110 metres to the northeast of Camp Road). The closure is required for the demolition of existing buildings and construction of a new development by Stoneham Construction Ltd. There is no alternative route for vehicular traffic.

The public footpath between Cameron Close and Jubilee Close will be also closed to pedestrians from 7am on Monday 18th November 2013 until 7am on Sunday 18th May 2014 from the end of the surfaced highway in Cameron Close (105 metres to the north east of Camp Road) to the end of the surfaced highway in Jubilee Close (110 metres to the northwest of Camp Road) for the same reason.

There is no alternative route for pedestrians.

Queens Road (outside East Wold). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 8am on Wednesday 12 February until 4.30pm on Friday 14 February 2014 for the installation of a new service by Southern Gas Networks. Traffic delays will occur.

GODSHILL:
Beacon Alley (approx 150 metres from junction with Whitwell Road). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am until 3.30pm on Friday 24 January 2014 for carriageway repair works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

GURNARD:
Cockleton Lane will be closed from Monday 6 January until approx. Monday 27 January 2014 (weather and other circumstances permitting) from 6.30am until 6pm on each day (Mondays to Fridays). The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads. The closure will be in operation between Hilton Road and Pallance Road. The diversion route will be: Church Road, Tuttons Hill, Place Road and Pallance Road.

Solent View Road (opposite & below number 66). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am until 3.30pm on Monday 27 January 2014 for carriageway repair works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

Woodvale Road will be closed from 6.30am until 6pm on approximately 3 to 5 days between Monday 27 January 2014 and Friday 14 February 2014 from Jordon Close to Woodvale Close. The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads. The diversion route will be: Princes Esplanade, Egypt Esplanade, Egypt Hill and Baring Road.

Princes Esplanade will be closed from 6.30am until 6pm on approximately 3 to 5 days between Tuesday 28 January and Tuesday 4 February from 200 metres north of Woodvale Road to 585 metres north and northeast of Woodvale Road. The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads. The diversion route will be: Woodvale Road, Baring Road, Crossfield Avenue, Ward Avenue, Baring Road, Castle Road, Queens Road, Egypt Hill, Egypt Esplanade, Princes Esplanade and Princess Esplanade.

LAKE:
Cliff Road / Cliff Path will be closed from 7pm on Sunday 5 January for foreseeable future between a point 30 metre to the North of Ranelagh Road to a point 95 metres to the South of Ranalegh Road (outside of number 6). During the period of closure the alternative route for traffic will be; Ranelagh Road, Currie Road and Cliff Road and Brinkcliff Gardens (located off Araluen Way). The closure is required due to land movement. Pedestrian access will be maintained as usual.

Cemetery Road (outside number 6 to just past James Mews) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 20 until approx. 5pm on Wednesday 22 January for drainage works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

A3056 Newport Road will be closed from 7.30pm until approx. 6.30pm on approximately 3 to 5 nights between Monday 27 January 2014 and Friday 14 February 2014 from Lamorbey Road to 250 metres to the west (towards Apse Heath). The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works.

The diversion route will be; Eastbound; A3056 Newport Road, Whitecross Lane, Sandy Lane, Landguard Manor Road, Landguard Road, A3055 North Road, Arthurs Hill and Sandown Road and A3056 Newport Road. Westbound; A3056 Newport Road, A3055 Sandown Road, Arthurs Hill and North Road, Clarendon Road, Falcon Crossroads, Landguard Road, Landguard Manor Road, Sandy Lane, Whitecross Lane, A3056 Newport Road.

NEWPORT:
St James Street (outside 120, between Lugley Street and Crocker). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 27 January until 5pm on Wednesday 29 January 2014 for the installation of a new service by Southern Gas Networks. Traffic delays will occur.

B3323 Carisbrooke Road (from Cavendish Place to Drill Hall Road). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 7.30pm until 11pm on Monday 27 January and Tuesday 28 January 2014 for gully cleansing works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

St Johns Road will be closed from Shide Road to Cypress Road between 12pm (noon) on Tuesday 14 January until approx. 4pm on Friday 31 January 2014 for urgent sewer repair works.

Diversion Route: Shide Road, A3020 St Georges Way, St Georges Approach, Medina Avenue and St Johns Road. The works are located near Shide Road junction.

Staplers Road (outside 195, just above Landscape Lane). Temporary traffic lights will be operation from 9am on Tuesday 28 January until approx. 4pm on Friday 31 January 2014 for the replacement of a water service by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water.
Traffic delays will occur.

Staplers Road (between Landscape Lane and 209, near Mews Lane). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 3.30pm on Thursday 6 February 2014 for electric substation maintenance works by Scottish & Southern Energy.
Traffic delays will occur.

A3020 Medina Way / Parkhurst Road (from Coppins Bridge Roundabout to near St Mary’s Roundabout). Temporary lane closures will be in operation between from 7am until 7pm on Saturday 25 January and Sunday 26 January 2014 for bridge joint repair works (at B138 Medina Bridge) and hedge cutting works on Medina Way by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

Medina Avenue (junction with Church Litten). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation 5.45pm on Tuesday 21 January until approx. Thursday 23 January 2014 for urgent electric cable repair works by Scottish & Southern Energy for Southern Electric. Traffic delays will occur.

Furrlongs will be closed from 6.30am until 6pm on approximately 3 to 5 days between Monday 27 January 2014 and Friday 14 February 2014 along Furrlongs, Newport from Royal Exchange to a point approx. 70 metres on the Staplers Road side of Manor Crescent. The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads.

The diversion route will be: Furrlongs, A3020 St Georges Way and Coppins Bridge Roundabout, Snooks Hill, Staplers Road and Furrlongs.

Pyle Street will be closed from 7.30pm until 6.30am on approximately 3 to 5 nights between Monday 27 January 2014 and Friday 14 February 2014 from St James Square to Carisbrooke Road. The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads. The one way restriction in Pyle Street will be temporarily suspended during the closure to allow access to businesses and premises. The diversion route will be: St James Street, Trafalgar Road and Carisbrooke Road. Light traffic up to 6ft 6in in width can also use; St James Street (also known as St James Square), St James Street, Lugley Street, Hearn Street, Caesars Road and Drill Hall Road.

NINGWOOD:
A3054 Yarmouth Road (junction with Station Road). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation between 10.15am until 3.30pm on Friday 24 January 2014 for cable repair works by A/plant for British Telecom. Traffic delays will occur.

NITON:
Newport Road will be closed from 9am on Monday 13 January 2014 until 4.30pm on Friday 7 February 2014 between Laceys Lane and Church Street. The closure is required for a drainage scheme from the junction with Church Street/Rectory Road to a point 140 metres to the north.

Building works to the convenience store will also be undertaken during the closure.
The diversion route will be:

Light traffic up to 6ft 6in in width; Laceys Lane and Rectory Road. Heavy over 6ft 6in width & through traffic; Newport Road, Niton Road, A3020 Main Road and Newport Road, West Street, Whitwell Road, High Street (Whitwell), Kemming Road, Chatfield Road and Rectory Road.

Temporary traffic lights will be required at times from Monday 6 January until Friday 28 February 2014 at the junction of Rectory Road / High Street / Newport Road Church Street, in connection with the works.

Temporary 6ft 6in Width Restriction- Lacey’s Lane. From 9am on Monday 13 January 4.30pm on Friday 7 February 2014 a temporary 6ft 6in width restriction will be in operation from Rectory Road to Newport Road, Niton. This is necessary in the interests of road safety whilst Newport Road, Niton is closed from Church Street to Laceys Lane for a drainage scheme.

Additional parking restrictions will be required whilst the 6ft 6in width restriction is in operation.

PARKHURST:
Noke Common (200 metres Horsebridge Hill side of Hillis Gate Road / Marks Corner). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am until 3.30pm on Thursday 23 January 2014 and if necessary on Friday 24 January 2014 for carriageway repair works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

RYDE:
Castle Street will be closed from 8am on Wednesday 8 January until 5pm on Friday 7 February 2014 between George Street and Union Street. The one way restriction will be temporarily suspended to allow access to premises and businesses during the weeks.
The diversion route will be: Union Road, Cross Street, Union Street, Esplanade and George Street. The closure is required for gas main replacement works.

B3330 Puckpool Hill (from the Boat to near Thornton Cottage). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation between 9.30am until 3.30pm on each day between Monday 3 February and Friday 7 February 2014 for cable works by A/plant for British Telecom.
The works will be undertaken in short sections. Traffic delays will occur.

B3330 St John’s Hill (from St Johns Road Railway Bridge, Moreys Timber Store to School Street). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 6 January until approx. 4pm on Friday 28 February 2013 for the renewal of the water main & services by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water.

Alexandra Road junction (from St Johns Hill to High Park Road). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am until 3.30pm on Monday 27 January for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

A3055 Appley Road (adjacent to pedestrian crossing by school). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 4pm on Wednesday 29 January, Thursday 30 January and Friday 31 January 2014 for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

B3330 Appley Road (various locations from near Thornton Close to approx. 70 metres from junction with A3055 Marlborough Road mini roundabout).
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation between 9.30am until 3.30pm on each day between Monday 10 February until Saturday 15 February 2014 for cable works by A/plant for British Telecom Traffic delays will occur.

RYDE/BINSTEAD:
A3054 Binstead Hill and Binstead Road. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 4pm on Thursday 30 January, Friday 31 January, Monday 3 February, Tuesday 4 February and Wednesday 5 February 2014 for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

A3054 Binstead Road junction with Ringwood Road. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 4pm on Monday 3 February and Tuesday 4 February 2014 for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

SANDOWN:
Golf Links Road / Longwood Lane. Island Roads on behalf of The Isle of Wight Council gives notice that from 0900hrs on Thursday 23 January 2014 until 0900hrs on Thursday 13 February 2014 or when the works have been completed, whichever is the sooner, no person shall cause any vehicle to proceed along Golf Links Road (Sandown) / Longwood Lane (Adgestone), from The Fairway to Lower Road. The closure is required as and when necessary due to flooding as a result of excessive rain.

During the period of closure the alternative route for traffic will be;
The Fairway, Station Approach, Perowne Way, A3055 Morton Common and Morton Road, Hornsey Rise and Lower Road, Adgestone.

A3055 Avenue Road/ Morton Common will be closed from 6.30pm until 6am on approximately 5 nights from Monday 20 January until Saturday 8 February 2014 (weather permitting) between Broadway and Morton Old Road. The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works between Broadway and a point 100 metres northeast of Perowne Way by Island Roads.

The diversion route will be: A3055 Broadway, Lake Hill and Sandown Road, A3056 Newport Road, Hale Common and Arreton Street, Downend Road, Mersley Down Road, Brading Down Road, Bullys Hill, The Mall and Hornsey Rise and Morton Road.

WORKS ARE PROPOSED TO BE UNDERTAKEN ON THE NIGHTS OF MONDAY 27 JANUARY AND TUESDAY 28 JANUARY 2014 (WEATHER PERMITTING)

SHANKLIN:
A3020 Victoria Avenue (at junction with Highfield Road). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 3 February until approx. 5pm on Friday 7 February 2014 for the installation of new electric connections by Scottish & Southern Energy. Traffic delays will occur.

Eastcliff Promenade will be closed from 9am on Monday 6 January until 4pm on Friday 7 February 2014 between Palmerston Road and Osborne Road. The closure is required for sewer flood alleviation works by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water. The diversion route will be: Palmerston Road, Queens Road and Osborne Road.

A3055 North Road (outside number 2). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 27 January until approx. 4pm on Friday 31 January 2014 for the installation of sewer flow monitoring equipment by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water.
Traffic delays are likely.

Landguard Road is now open to traffic at the junction with Falcon Road & Collingwood Road. The closure was from 2pm on Friday 3 January 2014 until 1.30pm on Friday 24 January 2014 for emergency carriageway investigation & repair works.

Cliff Path will be closed from 9.30 on Monday 20 January for the foreseeable future to pedestrians from Skew Bridge Path to Winchester House Car Park.
The closure is required due to erosion/ land movement.

During the period of closure the alternative route for pedestrians will be;
Skew Bridge Path, A3055 Sandown Road and Winchester House Car Park.

A3055 North Road (outside Gaynor House). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Tuesday 4 February until approx. 4.30pm on Thursday 6 February 2014 for the installation of a gas connection by Southern Gas Networks. Traffic delays will occur.

Apse Manor Road will be closed from 9am on Thursday 23 January 2014 until approx. 9am on Thursday 13 February 2014 between A3020 Godshill Road and Ventnor Road.
The closure is required as and when necessary due to flooding as a result of excessive rain. During the period of closure the alternative route for traffic will be;
A3020 Godshill Road, Canteen Road and Ventnor Road.

ST LAWRENCE:
A3055 Undercliff Drive will be closed from St Catherine’s Road to Seven Sisters Road (Western Junction), between 9am on Monday 4 November until Wednesday 30 April 2014 for carriageway stabilisation and repair works between Barrington Lodge, near to the western junction with Seven Sisters Road and Mirables which is located about a mile towards Niton, by Island Roads.

Geotechnical works to strengthen the road at the Undercliff, in the Niton / St Lawrence area is one of the first of 18 geotechnical schemes to maintain the road network being undertaken by Island Roads as part of the Highways PFI. In this area underlying clay foundations have caused frequent ground movement. Geotechnical work will be undertaken in three areas; In the vicinity of Undercliff Caravan Park and a property called Woodlands, the highway will be anchored by 25-metre steel cables driven through the clay strata into a more substantial layer of rock. At a location above Hunts Road, more than 100 ten-metre concrete piles will be drilled into the rock to strengthen the highway

DIVERSION ROUTE: A3055 Undercliff Drive, Barrack Shute, Institute Hill, New Road, Starr Inn Road and Church Street, Rectory Road, Chatfield Road, Kemming Road, High Street (Whitwell), Ventnor RD, Whitwell Road, Gills Cliff Road, Castle Road, A3055 Steephill Road and Undercliff Drive.

VENTNOR:
Whitwell Road (outside Bellevue). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 10.45am on Friday 24 January until 5pm on Tuesday 28 January 2014 for emergency gas main repair works Southern Gas Networks. Traffic delays will occur.

Rew Lane will be closed from 9am on Monday 6 January until approx. Wednesday 19 February 2014 or between B3327 Clarence Road to appoint 170 metres South West of the junction with Mountfield Road (at the end of West Street). During the period of closure the alternative route for traffic will be; B3327 Clarence Road and High Street (Wroxall) and West Street. The closure is required for urgent carriageway repair works.

Bath Road. A one way restriction will be in operation from La Falaise car Park to Belgrave Road between 9am on Tuesday 29 October until approx. 9am on Monday 19 May 2014 due to the reduction in road for the protection to masonry at retaining wall R1074 above a property called Seacourt.

DIVERSION ROUTE: Belgrave Road, Zig Zag Road, Alpine Road, Church Street, Hambrough Road, Shore Hill, Esplanade and Bath Road.

Market Street will be closed from 6.30am until 6pm on approximately 3 to 5 days between Monday Friday 24 January and Friday 14 February 2014 between High Street and Albert Street. The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads.

The one way restriction in Market Street will be temporarily suspended during the closure to allow access to businesses and premises. The diversion route will be: Albert Street, Pier Street and High Street.

YARMOUTH:
B3401 Thorley Road (from Bouldnor Road to a point 360 metres south of Bouldnor Road). Temporary traffic lights were in operation between 9am on Wednesday 11 December until Friday 20 December 2013 and will be required from 9am on Monday 6 January until 6pm on Monday 3 February 2014 for High and Low Voltage electric cable laying works by HMC Plant Services Ltd for Southern Electric. Traffic delays will occur.

A3054 Tennyson Road / Bouldnor Road between The Common and The Viewpoint Car Park. A scheme to strengthen an unstable stretches of the A3054 highway started in November 2013 and should be completed by the end of April 2014. The project at Bouldnor Road is one of 18 geotechnical schemes to maintain the road network being undertaken by Island Roads as part of the Highways PFI. The work will involve strengthening a 700-metre stretch of the highway between the Viewpoint Car Park and Yarmouth Green. 650 steel sheet piles will be driven up to 16 metres into the ground, a process called ‘soil nailing’ will also be used to stabilise the highway at the Yarmouth end of the scheme.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 8am on Monday 4 November 2013 until 5pm on Monday 31 March 2014 at various locations between The Common and The Viewpoint Car Park. Traffic delays will occur.

It will be necessary to close A3054 Bouldnor Road at times during part of March and April 2014 to enable the works to be completed. Further details will be given / advertised nearer the time.

Vehicles over 6ft 6in in width are advised to use an alternative route during the next few weeks due to the narrow road width. A temporary clearway order to prevent vehicles from stopping on the carriageway, footway , verges and any lay-bys will be in operation in A3054 Bouldnor Road from a point 460 metres to the North East of Thorley Road junction to a point 160 metres to the West of Thorley Road junction and in B3401 Thorley Road from the junction with A3054 Bouldnor Road to a point 120 metres to the South East. This Order is required in the interests of road safety whilst carriageway stabilisation and repair works are undertaken. The order will be operation from 8am on Monday 4 November 2013 until 6pm on Wednesday 30 April 2014.
