Roadworks taking place this week

ALUM BAY:
Alum Bay New Road will be closed from York Road to a point 750 metres west of Alum Bay Old Road (at the entrance to the Needles Park) from 6.30pm until 6am on the nights of Monday 31 March, Tuesday 1 April Thursday 3 2 April 2014. April and Friday 4 April 2014. The closure is for carriageway repairs by Island Roads. Access to premises will be maintained as far as possible during the works.

ARRETON:
A3056 Hale Common (outside Holliers Farm) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am until 4pm on Tuesday 1 April 2014 for tree cutting works by Groundsell Contracting. Some traffic delays are likely.

Downend Road (junction with Long Lane/ Briddlesford Road at Robin Hill Roundabout) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 3.30pm on Friday 11 April 2014 for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

ASHEY / BRADING:
Ashey Road (junction of West Ashey Farm near East Ashey Lane). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation by Docklands Traffic Management at times as necessary from 9am until 5pm on Sunday 30 March 2014 to enable vehicles to safely travel in and out of the Isle of Wight Grand National and Ashey Scurry event. Traffic delays will occur.

BLACKWATER:
A3020 Blackwater Hollow (between Brambles & the Cycle Track). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 7 April until 4pm on Tuesday 8 April 2014 for the installation of a new water valve in the verge by Clancy Docwra on behalf of Southern Water. Traffic delays are likely.

A3020 Blackwater Road (entrance to Wight Building Materials, St Georges Down) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation as necessary from 9am on Monday 22 April until 7pm on Friday 2 May 2014 to enable junction alteration works to be carried out by Wight Building Materials.
Some traffic delays are likely.

BRIGHSTONE:
Broad Lane will be closed from 9am until 3.30pm on each day (Mondays to Fridays) between Monday 31 March and Friday 11 April 2014 from B3399 Main Road to Wicken Hill Lane. The closure is for drainage works, to repair a damaged drainage pipe by Island Roads. The alternative will be: B3399 Main Road, New Road and Mill Lane.

CARISBROOKE:
B3323 High Street (outside Eight Bells Inn). Temporary traffic lights were in operation from 9am on Wednesday 26 March until 3pm on Friday 28 March 2014 for the installation of a new electric service by Scottish & Southern Energy. All works have been completed.

B3323 High Street (outside Noah’s Ark, near Eight Bells Inn). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Tuesday 1 April until 4pm on Thursday 3 April for the installation of a new water service connection by Clancy Docwra on behalf of Southern Water. Traffic delays are likely.

COWES:
Place Road (various locations from Three Gates Road to Pallance Road).
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 6.30am until 6pm (on each day Mondays to Fridays) between Monday 31 March and Thursday 3 April 2014 for surfacing preparation & kerbing works by Island Roads.Traffic delays will occur.

COWES/ EAST COWES:
The Cowes to East Cowes Floating Bridge will be out of service for a refit from 8.30am on Monday 7 April until approx. Monday April 14 2014. A passenger launch will be provided which cyclists can also use between Cowes and East Cowes whilst the Floating Bridge is out of service. Cars & vans will be diverted via Newport during the refit.

EAST COWES:
Esplanade will be closed from Monday 17 March until approx. Wednesday 2 April 2014 from Albany Road to a point metres north east of Albany Road. The alternative route for traffic will be; Albany Road, Cambridge Road and Esplanade. The closure is required for carriageway re-construction and realignment works by Walker Construction.

FRESHWATER:
Cameron Close will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7am on Monday 18 November 2013 until 7am on Monday 18th May 2015 between the northern boundary of number 2 (45 metres north of the junction with Camp Road) and the end of the surfaced highway (110 metres to the northeast of Camp Road). The closure is required for the demolition of existing buildings and construction of a new development by Stoneham Construction Ltd.
There is no alternative route for vehicular traffic. The public footpath between Cameron Close and Jubilee Close will be also closed to pedestrians from 7am on Monday 18th November 2013 until 7am on Sunday 18th May 2014 from the end of the surfaced highway in Cameron Close (105 metres to the north east of Camp Road) to the end of the surfaced highway in Jubilee Close (110 metres to the northwest of Camp Road) for the same reason.
There is no alternative route for pedestrians.

GURNARD:
Princes Esplanade will be closed from 6.30am on Monday 10 March until 6pm on Friday 4 April 2014 from 200 metres north of Woodvale Road to 585 metres north and northeast of Woodvale Road. The closure is required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads. The diversion route will be: Woodvale Road, Baring Road, Crossfield Avenue, Ward Avenue, Baring Road, Castle Road, Queens Road, Egypt Hill, Egypt Esplanade, Princes Esplanade and Princess Esplanade.

LAKE:
Cliff Road / Cliff Path will be closed from 7pm on Sunday 5 January 2014 for foreseeable future between a point 30 metre to the North of Ranelagh Road to a point 95 metres to the South of Ranalegh Road (outside of number 6). During the period of closure the alternative route for traffic will be; Ranelagh Road, Currie Road and Cliff Road and Brinkcliff Gardens (located off Araluen Way). The closure is required due to land movement. Pedestrian access will be maintained as usual.

A3056 Newport Road junction with A3055 Sandown Road. Temporary traffic lights were in operation from 10.30am on Monday 24 March until approx. 6.15am on Friday 28 March 2014 for urgent electric cable repair works by Scottish & Southern Energy.
All works have been completed.

A3056 Newport Road was closed from 6.30pm until 6am on certain nights between Monday 17 March and Wednesday 26 March 2014 from Whitecross Lane to Lamorbey Road.
The closure was required for carriageway resurfacing works by Island Roads. All works have now been completed.

NEWCHURCH:

Knighton Shute / Knighton Lane will be closed from Mersley Down Road to Mersley Lane will be closed between 2pm on Saturday 8 February and 6pm on Friday 4 April 2014. The closure is required until urgent carriageway repairs and resurfacing works have been undertaken by Island Roads. The alternative route for traffic will be; Mersley Down Road, Downend Road, A3056 Arreton Street and Hale Common, Watery Lane, Winford Road, High Street, The Shute and Langbridge.

Palmers Lane / Skinners Hill will be closed from Winford Road to Alverstone Road between 6.30am until 6pm (on each day Mondays to Fridays) between Wednesday 9 April and Tuesday 15 April 2014 for surfacing preparation & kerbing works by Island Roads. DIVERSION ROUTE: Winford Road, Forest Road and Alverstone Road

NEWPORT:
A3054 Forest Road (outside Bullgate Cottages) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Tuesday 22 April until 4pm on Friday 2 May 2014 for the replacement of new water main by Clancy Docwra on behalf of Southern Water. Traffic delays are likely.

A3054 Forest Road (from Bullgate Cottages to Gunville Road) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am Friday 2 May until 4pm on Friday 9 May 2014 for the replacement of new water main by Clancy Docwra on behalf of Southern Water.
Traffic delays are likely.

Beech Road will be closed from 6.30am until 6pm on Thursday 3 April and Friday 4 April 2014 between Robin Hood Street and a point 45 metres northwest of Ash Road.
The closure is for carriageway and footway repairs, resurfacing, drainage works, and kerbing works by Island Roads. There is no alternative route for traffic.

Whitehouse Road (various locations from A3054 Forest Road to Little Whitehouse Road) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from Monday 31 March until Friday 4 April 2014, for drainage works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

A3054 Forest Road (junction with Gunville Road)
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Friday 9 May 2014 until 4pm on Friday 16 May 2014 for the replacement of new water main by Clancy Docwra on behalf of Southern Water. Traffic delays are likely.

A3054 Forest Road (from Gunville Road to Whitehouse Road) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Friday 9 May 2014 until 4pm on Friday 16 May 2014 for the replacement of new water main by Clancy Docwra on behalf of Southern Water. Traffic delays are likely.

St James Street (from Lugley Street to High Street) A temporary one way restriction will be in operation which will only permit traffic to travel in the above direction (towards the centre of Newport) between 9am on Tuesday 1 April and approx. 6pm Friday 4 April 2014 for the installation of electric services approximately half way between High Street and Lugley Street by Scottish & Southern Energy. DIVERSION ROUTE: High Street, A3020 Medina Way, Slip Road to Riverway, Riverway, Hunny Cross Way and St James Street.

NINGWOOD / SHALFLEET / NEWPORT:
A3054 Yarmouth Road / Main Road / Yarmouth Road / Forest Road. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation between 9am until 4pm on each day (Mondays to Fridays) from Monday 31 March until approx. Friday 11 April 2014 for fibre optic cable works by British Telecom. Traffic delays will occur.

NORTHWOOD:
Pallance Road (outside 32). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 8am on Monday 14 April until approx. 5pm on Thursday 17 April 2014 for a new gas service connection by Southern Gas Networks. Some traffic delays will occur.

A3020 Newport Road (junction with Nodes Road). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am until 3.30pm on each day from Monday 31 March until Friday 4 April 2014 for carriageway repairs & line painting works by Island Roads. Some traffic delays will occur.

RYDE:
A3055 Marlborough Road (outside 117) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 31 March until 4pm on Wednesday 2 April 2014 for the installation of a new water service connection by Clancy Docwra on behalf of Southern Water. Traffic delays are likely.

SANDOWN:
Winchester Park Road (outside number 1, St Catherine’s Hotel, between A3055 Broadway and Fitzroy Street). Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Thursday 3 April until approx. 4.30pm on Friday 4 April 2014 for the installation of a new gas service by Southern Gas Networks. Traffic delays will occur.

A3055 Morton Common (from Avenue Road to Morton Road) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 3.30pm on each day from Tuesday 8 April until Friday 11 April 2014 for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads.
Traffic delays will occur. Esplanade will be closed from 8am on Wednesday 28 March until approx. 5pm on Monday 31 March 2014 for urgent drainage repair works by Island Roads.
The one way restriction in Esplanade will be temporarily suspended to allow access to premises and businesses. Diversion Route: Pier Street, Beachfield Road, Royal Crescent, Melville Street, Fitzroy Street, Station Avenue, Albert Street, Victoria Road, Haigh Street and Esplanade Road.

Avenue Road (from Morton Common to High Street, various Locations) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 3.30pm on Wednesday 9 April and Thursday 10 April 2014 for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

Avenue Road (from Morton Common to High Street, various Locations) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 3.30pm on Wednesday 26 March, Friday 28 March, Monday 31 March and Tuesday 1 April and Wednesday 2 April 2014 for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

Station Avenue will be closed from 9am on Monday 31 March until 4pm on Friday 11 April 2014 or between A3055 Broadway and Hill Street. The closure is required for sewer repair works and for the construction of a new manhole chamber by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water. The works are located outside number 17. The alternative will be: A3055 Broadway, Winchester Park Road and Grove Road.

A3055 Avenue Road will be closed from 1) – 10pm on Tuesday 1 April until 6am on Wednesday 2 April 2014 and from 2) – 10pm on Wednesday 2 April until 6am on Thursday 3 April 2014 between Perowne Way and Tamar Close. The closures are required for the Inspection of Sandown Railway Bridge by Centurion Traffic Management. The alternative will be; Perowne Way, Station Approach, The Fairway, A3055 Lake Hill, The Broadway and Avenue Road.

Culver Parade (from Avenue Road to Sandown Holiday Centre, various locations) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9.30am until 3.30pm on Thursday 3 April, Friday 4 April, Monday 7 April and Tuesday 8 April 2014 for the replacement of Streetlights & lanterns by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

SHANKLIN:
A3055 Arthurs Hill (junction with Clarence Road) Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Thursday 10 April until 5pm on Friday 14 April 2014 for the installation of a new electric service by Scottish & Southern Energy. Traffic delays are likely.

Cliff Path will be closed from 9.30am on Monday 20 January 2014 for the foreseeable future to pedestrians from Skew Bridge Path to Winchester House Car Park.
The closure is required due to erosion/ land movement. During the period of closure the alternative route for pedestrians will be; Skew Bridge Path, A3055 Sandown Road and Winchester House Car Park.

A3020 Victoria Avenue will be closed from 6.30am on Monday 3 March until approx.6pm on Wednesday 2 April 2014 between Salem Road and A3055 High Street. The closure is required for the upgrading of A3055 High Street junction traffic signals and associated highway works by Island Roads. The alternative route for traffic is; A3020 Victoria Avenue, Florence Road, Grange Road and A3055 High Street. To assist with the free flow of traffic in the area during the works one way restrictions will be introduced in Hatherton Road, Shanklin as follows; 1)-From Brook Road to Western Road – traffic will only be permitted to travel in an eastbound direction, towards Western Road. The alternative route for traffic (travelling in a westbound direction, towards Brook Road) will be; Western Road, Landguard Road, A3055 High Street, Regent Street, Falcon Cross Road, Collingwood Road and Brook Road; 2) – From St Johns Road to Albert Road – traffic will only be permitted to travel in a westbound direction, towards Albert Road. The alternative route for traffic (travelling in an eastbound direction, towards St Johns Road) will be; Hatherton Road, Albert Road, A3020 Victoria Avenue and St Johns Road.

Palmerston Road will be closed from 9am on Monday 10 February until 4pm on Thursday 17 April 2014 between Park Road and Eastcliff Promenade. The closure is required for sewer flood alleviation works by Clancy Docwra on behalf of Southern Water.
The diversion route will be: Palmerston Road, Queens Road, Osborne Road and Eastcliff Promenade.

ST LAWRENCE:
A3055 Undercliff Drive will be closed from St Catherine’s Road to Seven Sisters Road (Western Junction), between 9am on Monday 4 November until Wednesday 30 April 2014 for carriageway. stabilisation and repair works between Barrington Lodge, near to the western junction with Seven Sisters Road and Mirables which is located about a mile towards Niton, by Island Roads. Geotechnical works to strengthen the road at the Undercliff, in the Niton / St Lawrence area is one of the first of 18 geotechnical schemes to maintain the road network being undertaken by Island Roads as part of the Highways PFI.
In this area underlying clay foundations have caused frequent ground movement. Geotechnical work will be undertaken in three areas; In the vicinity of Undercliff Caravan Park and a property called Woodlands, the highway will be anchored by 25-metre steel cables driven through the clay strata into a more substantial layer of rock. At a location above Hunts Road, more than 100 ten-metre concrete piles will be drilled into the rock to strengthen the highway

DIVERSION ROUTE: A3055 Undercliff Drive, Barrack Shute, Institute Hill, New Road, Starr Inn Road and Church Street, Rectory Road, Chatfield Road, Kemming Road, High Street (Whitwell), Ventnor RD, Whitwell Road, Gills Cliff Road, Castle Road, A3055 Steephill Road and Undercliff Drive.

Due to a landslip A3055 Undercliff Drive is now closed to pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders from 12pm (noon) on Saturday 15 February 2014 for the foreseeable future between a point 560 metres west to, the access road to Mirables, 1260 metres west of the western junction of Seven Sisters Road with A3055 Undercliff Drive, St Lawrence. During the period of closure the alternative route for traffic will be; Pedestrians; A3055 Undercliff Drive, Public Footpath V81, V77, NT28, NT29, NT30 and A3055 Undercliff Drive. Cyclists and Equestrians; A3055 Undercliff Drive, Seven Sisters Road, St Lawrence Shute, Whitwell Road, Ventnor Road, High Street (Whitwell), Kemming Road, Chatfield Road, Rectory Road, High Street (Niton), Institute Hill, Barrack Shute and A3055 Undercliff Drive.

THORLEY:
Hill Place Lane will be closed from 8am on Friday 28 February 2014 until 6pm on Friday 4 April 2014 between A3054 Bouldnor Road and B3401 Thorley Street. The alternative route for traffic will be; A3054 Yarmouth Road, Ningwood Hill, Main Road, Station Road, B3401 Wellow Road, Main Road (Wellow) and Main Road (Thorley). Note:Hill Place Lane is physically closed to traffic at the junction with A3054 Bouldnor Road and access to all premises and businesses will only be available from B3401 Thorley Street direction. The closure is required in the interests of road safety whilst A3054 Bouldnor Road / Tennyson Road is closed.

TOTLAND:
The Broadway (various locations between The Avenue Roundabout and Granville Rise. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 6.30am until 6pm (on each day Mondays to Fridays) between Thursday 3 April and Thursday 17 April 2014 for surfacing preparation & kerbing works by Island Roads. Traffic delays will occur.

VENTNOR:
B3327 Ocean View Road (junction with Gills Cliff Road and Newport Road)
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 9am on Monday 3 march until 4.30pm on Monday 31 March 2014 for gas main replacement works by Southern Gas Networks. Traffic delays will occur.

Rew Lane will be closed from 9am on Monday 6 January until approx. Monday 31 March 2014 between B3327 Clarence Road to a point 170 metres southwest of the junction with Mountfield Road (at the end of West Street). During the period of closure the alternative route for traffic will be; B3327 Clarence Road and High Street (Wroxall) and West Street. The closure is required until carriageway repair works have been undertaken.

Bath Road. A one way restriction will be in operation from La Falaise car Park to Belgrave Road between 9am on Tuesday 29 October until approx. 9am on Monday 19 May 2014 due to the reduction in road for the protection to masonry at retaining wall R1074 above a property called Seacourt. DIVERSION ROUTE: Belgrave Road, Zig Zag Road, Alpine Road, Church Street, Hambrough Road, Shore Hill, Esplanade and Bath Road.

Marlborough Road will be closed from 9am on Monday 3 March until 4pm on Friday 9 May 2014 between the northern end of The Grove Car Park to Tulse Hill. The alternative route for traffic will be; A3055 Alpine Road, Church Street and High Street. The closure is required for the construction of a sewer chamber and associated pipework by Clancy Docwra for Southern Water. The works are located outside of 1 Spring Cottage.

WHIPPINGHAM:
A3021 Whippingham Road (approx. 200 metres below Folly Lane). Temporary traffic lights were in operation from 6.30pm on Thursday 27 March until approx. 11.30am on Friday 28 March 2014 for urgent manhole chamber repair works by CCN Utilities for British Telecom. All works have been completed.

WOOTTON:
Park Road will be closed from 6.30am until 6pm between Wednesday 9 April and Friday 11 April 2014 between Lushington Hill and Station Road. The closure is for carriageway and footway repairs, resurfacing, drainage works, verge maintenance and kerbing works by Island Roads. The alternative route will be; A3054 Lushington Hill and High Street and Station Road.

YARMOUTH:
A3054 Tennyson Road / Bouldnor Road between The Common and The Viewpoint Car Park. A scheme to strengthen an unstable stretches of the A3054 highway started in November 2013 and should be completed by the end of April 2014. The project at Bouldnor Road is one of 18 geotechnical schemes to maintain the road network being undertaken by Island Roads as part of the Highways PFI. The work will involve strengthening a 700-metre stretch of the highway between the Viewpoint Car Park and Yarmouth Green. 650 steel sheet piles will be driven up to 16 metres into the ground, a process called ‘soil nailing’ will also be used to stabilise the highway at the Yarmouth end of the scheme. Temporary traffic lights will be in operation from 8am on Monday 4 November 2013 until 5pm on Monday 31 March 2014 at various locations between The Common and The Viewpoint Car Park.
Traffic delays will occur. Vehicles over 6ft 6in in width are advised to use an alternative route during the next few weeks due to the narrow road width. A temporary clearway order to prevent vehicles from stopping on the carriageway, footway, verges and any lay-bys will be in operation in A3054 Bouldnor Road from a point 460 metres to the North East of Thorley Road junction to a point 160 metres to the West of Thorley Road junction and in B3401 Thorley Road from the junction with A3054 Bouldnor Road to a point 120 metres to the South East. This Order is required in the interests of road safety whilst carriageway stabilisation and repair works are undertaken. The order will be operation from 8am on Monday 4 November 2013 until 6pm on Wednesday 30 April 2014.

A3054 Tennyson Road / Bouldnor Road will be closed from 9am on Monday 17 February until 6pm on Friday 4 April 2014 between Victoria Road to St Swithins Crescent. The closure is for piling and carriageway repair works in connection with geotechnical stabilisation works by Island Roads. The diversion route will be: Through Traffic:
A3054 Tennyson Road, River Road, Bridge Road, Halletts Shute and Colwell Road, A3055 The Avenue, Avenue, Road, School Green Road and Afton Road, B3399 Newport Road, and B3399 / B3401 Freshwater Road, Sun Hill, Calbourne Road and High Street (Carisbrooke), Priory Road, Gunville Road, A3054 Forest Road, Yarmouth Road, Main Road (Shalfleet), Yarmouth Road, Ningwood Hill and Yarmouth Road. Light Traffic up to 6ft 6in in width can use; Pixley Hill, Copse Lane and Hooke Hill.
