Dr Rory Fox :

Rory Fox to quit Ryde Academy … say Daily Mail

Rory Fox, the Head of Ryde Academy who has gained national attention for his approach to running the Isle of Wight school, will be leaving, so is buried within the text of a long article published by the Daily Mail today.

It’s been suspected that Dr Fox would leave at some time – he lists his role as ‘Interim Principal at Ryde Academy’ on his LinkedIn profile. His initial role was that of Executive Principal when it was announced in November 2013 that the last head was leaving.

Indeed during OnTheWight‘s interview with Rory Fox at the time of barring children from school over their uniforms (July 14), we sought to find out long he would be at the school (detailed below).

What The Mail says
The Mail article states that ‘Dr Fox’s work in Ryde is nearly done’, continuing ‘The post of principal will be advertised in the new year, to start in September — which means Dr Fox must be preparing for his next mercy mission.’

The piece then goes on to speculate where the Head might go next, ‘Where will it be? Where will he go, armed only with his zeal, courage and enormous rulebook?’

Rory Fox is quoted as saying,

“Who knows? I like to keep an open mind,” he says, with a glint. “Even independent schools have problems — those children can suffer from poverty of the spirit! I won’t have children let down.”

When OnTheWight asked Dr Fox how long he’d stay
After he’d been speaking about the coming decades, and the children at the school having life chances they wouldn’t otherwise have had, OnTheWight asked him, “Do you think you’ll be here that long? – To see those benefits?”

His response relevant to the question was:

“I think I’m conscious that I’ve got a job to do and I’ve got to get the job done. I think it’s a fool-hardy person who tries to predict the future. (Laughs)

“There’s certainly work to be done over the next year or two.

“I would like to see through a good set of exam results, so there’s a sense that people can see what we’ve done and what it’s led to.”

Background
Dr Fox came to National attention when he banned pupils from the Isle of Wight school for not wearing the designated school uniform.

Further National attention was gained when a letter from Dr Fox was leaked, where he was highly critical of some of the teachers on the Isle of Wight.
