RSPCA Isle of Wight dog walk returns to Havenstreet this April with steam train ride

Last updated:

Animal lovers and their four-legged friends are invited to take part in a unique countryside adventure this spring as the Great RSPCA Isle of Wight Dog Walk returns on Sunday 26th April 2026 at Havenstreet Station.

Steam trains and scenic countryside
Organised by RSPCA Isle of Wight, the much-loved annual event promises a fun-filled day combining scenic walking, vintage railway travel and plenty of dog-friendly activities – all in support of vulnerable animals across the Island.

Participants will begin their journey with a memorable steam train ride, hosted by the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, travelling from Havenstreet to Wootton before embarking on a guided three-mile countryside walk back through picturesque woodland and farmland.

Along the route, walkers will pass through Briddlesford Woods – home to native wildlife such as red squirrels and dormice – making it an enjoyable experience for families, nature lovers and dogs alike.

A full day of activities
Back at Havenstreet, the event continues with a lively programme of activities running from 10:00am to 4:30pm. Highlights include a popular Fun Dog Show featuring light-hearted categories such as “Waggiest Tail,” “Best Veteran,” and “Best in Show,” as well as dog-themed stalls, displays, and refreshments.

Event tickets also include access to the railway’s attractions, including its museum and Train Story Discovery Centre, offering visitors the chance to explore over 150 years of railway heritage.

Supporting Island animals
Funds raised from the event will directly support the work of the RSPCA Isle of Wight, an independent charity that rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes animals in need across the Island. The organisation relies heavily on local fundraising, with more than 95% of its income generated through community support.

Rebecca Busby, Fundraising and Marketing officer for the charity said,

“The Great Isle of Wight Dog Walk is one of our favourite events of the year. It’s a fantastic way for the community to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and help us continue caring for animals who need us most.”

Getting there and booking tickets
Visitors travelling from the Mainland can also take advantage of discounted ferry travel over the event weekend, making it even easier to join in the celebrations.

Whether you’re a dog owner, an animal enthusiast, or simply looking for a great family day out, the Great RSPCA Isle of Wight Dog Walk offers something for everyone.
