Rugby club litter pickers donate prize to Sophie Rolf Fund

Thanks to John for sharing latest news from the IW CPRE. Ed

On Saturday, 6th October, 2012 there will be a presentation made to Ventnor Rugby Club (at 5pm), at their club premises on Whitwell Road.

A short time ago, a group from VRC carried out a concerted raid on litter that had been lurking along the roadside footpath near the club grounds.

The team emerged carrying large black bags full of unwanted rubbish, leaving behind a clean and tidy footpath ready to welcome Island visitors.

All this had been done under the auspices of the Island’s branch of Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE-IW) who have been promoting similar activities throughout our localities as part of the national ‘Stop the Drop’ programme.

Award presented to the Sophie Rolf Fund
CPRE-IW rewards each approved litter pick with a handsome framed certificate together with an equally handsome cheque made out to an Island charity of the team’s choice.

Ventnor Rugby Club has asked that their award goes to the Sophie Rolf Fund and this will be done at the above-mentioned ceremony on Saturday. On behalf of CPRE-IW, John Langley, branch Chairman will be pleased to do the honours.
