Ryde Harriers compete in final event of the winter series

Thanks to Tom for this latest report from the Ryde Harriers running club. Ed

On a perfect evening for running 29 runners took on the hilly course that took in Pennyfeathers, Ashey Road, Harding and Beaper Shutes, before finishing with a fast downhill to the clubhouse at Ryde Rowing Club.

With only full Harriers members applicable for the championship trophy, Simon McMorran’s excellent time of 36.20 was fastest but as a second-claim member he couldn’t win.

That honour went to Tom Blackwell who was around two minutes behind on 38.36 closely followed by Simon Newman in 39.13 with Pete Still third male Harrier home in 43.15.

In the women’s race Sarah Kavanagh nearly managed to break the 40 minute barrier to take this year’s title in a time of 40.31. Second was Julie King who finished strongly in a time of 43.21 and third place went to Mandy Womack who just held of Cherry Shannon in an exciting finish. Vets prizes went to Elaine Parry (V35), Pete Still (V40), Julie King (V45), Andrew Lewis (V50), Graham Maitland (V60) and Steve Lee (V70).
