Ryde Inshore Rescue Mayday AppealIn 2009 Ryde Inshore Rescue put out their very own “Mayday” to help rescue their building, which is becoming overcrowded and despite regular maintenance is leaking more than ever.

To date the lifeboat station has managed to raise half of the £140,000 required and is now turning to Islanders to help them reach the full amount.

Turned down for grants
Several grant requests from providers such as the Lottery funds have been turned down as they do not meet the aims of the community projects that are supported. Therefore this unit needs to raise the amount themselves to see their dream come true.

“Ryde Inshore Rescue was the busiest lifeboat station on the Island in 2009, RNLI or independent,” says Michaela White, Chairman of the unit that was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in July last year. “Going afloat and rescuing is only part of our role, we used our vehicles to assist the Islanders in the adverse weather conditions at the beginning of this year and throughout the year we give regular talks to schools and youth groups on sea safety. During the summer months the location of our unit makes us an ideal place for any person in the vicinity who has any problem; water based or not, be it first aid, a missing child or directions! On top of that we support local events by providing free marshalling and first response.”

Please help support this much needed service
Everything is in place now for the extension to happen apart from the funding and the crew hope that by making it easier to donate the public will dig as deep as they can in the financial climate for this grassroots organisation that support the community every way they can.

In a hope to attract donors a specific page has been set up Just Giving Website where donations can be made safely and easily, you can even follow the progress as the last £70,000 of this project is raised.
