The O2 shop in Ryde has been listed by the Communication Workers Union as one of the 40 shops that will close across the UK, it’s been reported.
They claim that 250 staff working across the UK shops will be made redundant, adding that O2 is, “seeking to redeploy as many permanent employees as possible into stores within reasonable travelling distance and that whilst there may be exception around individual circumstances, people’s ability to travel/personal circumstances they will be embarking on an immediate preference exercise amongst the 110 sales advisors to assess how the business can support them in obtaining a suitable alternative role.”

We think we just about understand what they mean – there’s a hope that some of the staff may find roles in other shops.
Low footfall (number of people going into the shops) or duplication have been listed as the reasons for the closures.
