As you will have seen, considerable amounts of money are being spent on repairing Ryde Pier.
Once the repairs have been carried out, Wightlink have announced that they’ll have to re-introduce a toll charge for cars that use the pier (pedestrians or cyclists will remain free).
As yet it’s not known how much Wightlink will charge and they say, “details of the charges will be released in due course.”
Past history
We spoke to Ryde Councillor, Graham Pearce, who filled us in on the background to the toll charging in the past (Thanks Graham!).
Those who use the pier may recall seeing … or feeling … the speed bumps you drive over at the station end.
This is where the toll used to be collected. Two barriers on the way in and one on the way out.
Graham said about seven – eight years ago, the toll was halted.
