Ofsted has judged Oakfield CE Primary School in Ryde to meet the expected standard in every area it assessed.
Head teacher Vikki Reader says the school met that standard for attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, early years, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and wellbeing.
She says the school also met safeguarding standards.
Inspectors found pupils are happy, feel safe and know that staff have their best interests at heart. The report also recognised that pupils behave well and are kind to one another.
Years of uncertainty
The result follows a stretch in which the school’s future was openly in doubt.
Ms Reader says,
“The school has faced a particularly challenging few years, including the previous threat of closure.”
She says the report gives the school “an important opportunity to tell the next chapter of Oakfield’s story and to recognise the determination of our children, families, staff and governors”.
Support for pupils with additional needs
Ms Reader says inspectors gave particular recognition to the school’s inclusive approach and to the support it provides for children with special educational needs and disabilities. She says,
“We are immensely proud that the report reflects the school Oakfield is: a joyful, caring and inclusive school in which children are placed at the centre of every decision.”
She adds that the report “also recognises the sustained work undertaken by our staff and governors, alongside the steadfast support of our families and outside agencies”.
She says,
“After a period in which Oakfield has often appeared in the news because of the challenges it faced, it would mean a great deal to our whole community to see the school’s progress, resilience and achievements recognised.”

Expected standard is one of five grades Ofsted introduced when it replaced single-word judgements in November 2025, sitting above needs attention and below strong standard and exemplary.
