Last Friday, managers and colleagues at Sainsbury’s in Newport took part in a Flashmob for Sports Relief.
As the photos show, staff got together to dance in the centre aisles to that long-forgotten dance-along track from Black Lace, Superman.
It provided an amusing break from the mundane task of shopping, with customers enjoying the interlude, and as you’d expect, mobile phones were out capturing video and photos.

Staff were dressed in red Sport Relief sweatshirts as well as some in Sport Relief onesies to dance to a couple of rounds of “Superman” with the words adapted to resemble activities for Sport Relief such as cycling, swimming, dancing, moon walking, drinking, skipping etc.
Tanya Blake from Sainsburys told OnTheWight,
“We had a great weekend fundraising, with colleagues and customers having the opportunity to peddle on our exercise bikes. That were kindly donated by Steve from Spin Zone. Colleagues and customers paid £1 to have peddle just one mile or even more if they liked.
“We all did so well that between customers and colleagues we ended up cycling over 200 miles – that’s just over three times around the Island!
“Colleagues even did an actual cycle ride around the Island over three days – with fundraising amounts – still coming in.
“A big Thank you to Steve from Spin Zone, everyone really loved having a go on the bikes and altogether we have now raised £4,185 with more donations still coming in!”
Sainsbury’s Newport also held a quiz night, a book and cake sale, and a football match to help raise funds for this great cause that helps projects and families both in the UK and Africa.
