Lollipop Lady:

What will happen if the free school bus from the Floating Bridge is axed?

It was revealed at a recent Cowes Enterprise Parent Council meeting that provision of the discretionary bus from the Floating Bridge was “Under Review”.

Acting Chair and Elected Parent Governor, Sean Harrison, told those at the meeting that the cost of the service was unsustainable, “given the need for focus on teaching and learning”.

Around 150 pupils currently use the service which is thought to cost the College around £30,000 per annum.

Inequality with other pupils
It was suggested that the service also “created an inequality with other pupils living a similar distance from the College”.

The potential for the service to be run commercially, independently of the College was discussed, as well as promotion of the health benefits of walking.

The College will engage with the wider parent body on the issue before any final decisions are made.
