Sandown Bay Regatta returns with family fun and entertainment on Sunday

Sandown Bay Regatta returns this Sunday 10th August with a day of free family fun and entertainment along the Esplanade.

The popular street market is open from 10am, with the Regatta’s stage and performance areas hosting Horse Box Theatre and magician David Randini, along with music from Wight Diamonds Marching Band, The Crew, Sea Gels Shanty Band and steel drummer Alex Cassidy.

There’s a chance to have a go at samba drumming with Yes! Creative Beats, and morris dancers Men of Wight and Moonshine Border will also perform on the seafront.

Further along the Esplanade on Eastern Beach, there’s the ever-popular Punch and Judy show, beach games including tug of war and The Grand Regatta Hat Parade with a chance to win £100 for Best Hat.

There are no fireworks this year, but organisers Sandown Carnival have seen the summer event grow in popularity since they took it over in 2022.

“We’re proud keep this historic town occasion going strong in the 21st century”
Carnival chair Paul Coueslant says,

“Sandown has had a Regatta since 1857 and we’re proud keep this historic town occasion going strong in the 21st century.

“We’ve got lots of family entertainment on offer on Sunday and we hope everyone enjoys the day.”

Further details of the event can be found on the website.

Sandown Bay Regatta is produced by Sandown Carnival, a non-profit community group run entirely by volunteers. The organisation welcomes public donations to support its work.
