Another great boost for Central Saint Martins fashion graduate (and Sandown resident), Joel Lines, this week, after Rosie Wolfenden MBE, co-founder and managing director of Tatty Devine, chose to wear a coat designed by Joel to the launch of her company’s latest collaboration.
The Bonchurch resident chose the piece for Tatty Devine x Zandra Rhodes, a collection of jewellery inspired by textile prints and motifs from Dame Zandra Rhodes’s archive, including safety pins and New York skylines.
Grayson Perry was among the guests at the event, as Tatty Devine has worked with him too. Grayson has also donned one of Joel’s masterpieces, as reported by OnTheWight back in 2024.
Joel Lines told OnTheWight,
“It was such a delight when Rosie contacted me about wearing one of my pieces to the Zandra Rhodes x Tatty Devine launch, especially as I previously made a garment for Grayson, who was also attending the event, moments like these reminds me of how privileged I am to be Central St Martins alumni.”
A second-year print project
Joel made the coat as a digital print project in his second year on the print course, and the fashion designer Richard Quinn judged it runner up in 2021.
The garmet is a large opera coat, drawing on the work of Picasso and on Looney Tunes and other cartoon imagery.
Joel used collaged artwork with screen print and applique, and turned enlarged faces into wearable art.
Rosie Wolfenden told OnTheWight,
“The minute I saw Shape Shift by Joel Lines I knew it was what I needed to wear to the launch of the Tatty Devine x Zandra Rhodes.
“It is based on how creativity never dies and I felt cocooned in creativity, the best way to be!
“I love how the colour palette is so in tune with the Painted Lady pieces from the collection, and with all the faces in Zandras Rainbow penthouse too.”
Joel hopes his work is used again for events like this, and appreciated.
First solo exhibition
Joel will hold his first solo exhibition at Graft Studios, Grafton Street, Sandown from 1st to 19th October 2026.
The show will bring together work from past years and newer pieces. Joel will carry on with current projects while it runs.
