Sandown preps for spectacular start to the Island’s 2023 carnival season

After last weekend’s disappointment when bad weather forced the cancellation of Newport Carnival, Sandown is ready to get the Island’s 2023 carnival season started on Saturday (29th July).

The popular Sandown Children’s Parade takes place in the morning, with the spectacular Main Carnival making its way through the town in the evening.

Paul Coueslant, Sandown Carnival chairperson, says,

“Our hearts went out to our friends in Newport last week.

“Fingers crossed, the forecast for this weekend looks better and we can’t wait to welcome everyone for a day of fun and entertainment’.

Register at 10.15am
Entrants for the Children’s Carnival need to register by the Pier at 10.15am, with the parade moving off at 11am for Sandham Gardens where Sandown’s Carnival Queens will be crowned, followed by family entertainment until teatime.

Paul Coueslant says,

“Sandown Carnival promises to be as strong as ever this year.

“We’ve got lots of music with marching, samba and pipes bands, the amazing costumes of Shademakers UK as well as performers, dancers, community groups, schools and families in fancy dress all joining in the fun.

“We’re really looking forward to putting on a day-long show for people to enjoy.”
