Save Military Road Campaigner Urges Public To Comment

In response to the announcement yesterday by the Isle of Wight council regarding the public consultation on the future of the Military Road, former Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Jill Wareham, has spoken out.

Save the Military Road CampaignerShe is calling on the 3,500 people who joined her Facebook campaign ‘Save the Military Road‘ to take the time to consider the options outlined and respond to the Isle of Wight council.

Mrs Wareham said “At last the Council has listened to us and is undertaking the consultation which we have been waiting for since March. I have received so many comments and letters of support from locals and tourists and I’m sure Cllr Giles has already had emails which I hope he is going to take into consideration when they make their decision.

“Although welcoming the Council’s consultation it is unfortunate that the Council has chosen August to consult, as a number of local people will be on holiday. It is also regrettable that you have to pay to visit one of the four manned exhibitions. Those people who do not have Internet access will be disadvantaged and I hope that the Council will have feedback forms available at local businesses for people to complete and return.

“The Military Road is so important to the Isle of Wight that we must make every effort to prolong its life. This view is supported by local residents, tourists, the Chamber of Commerce, Town and Parish Councils – the Isle of Wight Councillors must listen. “

If you can’t visit the roadshows, view and comment via the council’s website.
