SAVE RYDE AND SHANKLIN THEATRE

The IW Council will be holding a full cabinet meeting next Tuesday in Bembridge at the Village Hall. It starts at 6pm and it’s expected that there will be a large number of the public attending as one of the items being discussed at the meeting will be the future of Ryde and Shanklin Theatres.

SAVE RYDE AND SHANKLIN THEATREBoth theatres are threatened with closure and we hear through the grapevine that there are a couple of options on the table for each, although they don’t sound that appealing. Both theatres are vital to the community, they offer different uses and would be sorely missed if closed down.

A group of dedicated people have working hard over the last couple of years to keep Ryde Theatre alive as a music venue, often working in their own time and taking the initiative to improve the offering the theatre has for the community.

It is clear that the current administration are keen to get rid of many of the properties they own … it is in fact their policy to do so … but let’s hope they realise what they’d be taking away from the community if either of these theatres are closed.

If you don’t want to see either theatre closed, let the councillors know by heading up to Bembridge next Tuesday. Show your public support for the theatres and take all your friends and family. Make sure the councillors know how much these venues would be missed.

The meeting starts at 6pm prompt.
