Service to celebrate life of cricket champion, John Hilsum

Those who knew John Hilsum are invited to a service to celebrate his life next month.

John Hilsum

John Hilsum, chairman of Ventnor Cricket Club and founder and trustee of Newclose Cricket Ground, sadly passed away on Saturday 6th August.

Hugely influential in the world of cricket on the Isle of Wight, John was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for voluntary services to cricket and the community in the 2016 New Year’s Honours List.

John’s life will be celebrated at a service on 1st September at 1pm at St Catherine’s Church, Ventnor, followed by drinks at Steephill.

The Isle of Wight Cricket Board said that John will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered.

Special request
The family ask that bright colours are worn: blue and gold is encouraged. The family has asked for family flowers only.

Donations can be made to the chosen charities, Cancer Research UK or Ventnor Cricket Club. Please write cheques payable to the charities. Send to Ingrams Funeral Directors, 12 Albert Street, Ventnor, Isle of Wight, PO38 1EX or can be collected on the day.

Our thoughts are with John’s family, friends and colleagues.
