Road closed sign:

Sewer repairs will close Ventnor road for around a week (updated)

The road linking Upper Ventnor with the town will be closed from 9am tomorrow morning (Friday 18th July) for up to a week.

Newport Road, Ventnor, which already is already subject to one lane traffic, will be closed whilst repairs to a collapsed sewer takes place.

A Southern Water spokesman said:

“We apologise to customers for any disruption caused by our emergency repairs to a sewer in Newport Road, Ventnor.

“Part of the sewer, which runs down the centre of the road, has collapsed and needs replacing.

“The road will be closed while the repair is under way and a diversion will be in place for traffic.

“We expect the repair to take about a week and will work hard to make sure it is completed as soon as possible.”

Update: 15.55
Thanks to Stuart George from the IW Bus Users Group who called to advise about No.3 bus diversions during the period.

The No.3 will be diverted via Whitwell, as far as Godshill and then an hourly shuttle bus will run from Shanklin to Whiteley Bank, Wroxall and Upper Ventnor. This will run until 9pm.

Southern Vectis also say that the closure will be for 12 days rather than a week.

Thanks to Adrian from Church Street Motorcycles for alerting us to the closure.
