Great sadness was expressed across the Isle of Wight and beyond after news broke on Wednesday morning that Totland resident Shaw Taylor died the night before, aged 90.
Tributes and condolences made their way onto TV, radio and across social media.
A keen supporter of the Labour Party and friend to the local Constituency Party, Shaw had apparently only recently renewed his membership, joking with them about discounts for the over-90s.
“A great friend of the Party”
Stewart Blackmore, IW Labour Party prospective parliamentary candidate said,
“It is with great sadness that we in the Isle of Wight Labour Party learned of the death of Shaw who was a great friend of the party and, indeed, only renewed his membership about a month ago after light-heartedly requesting a further discount for ninety year olds!
“He was always happy to work quietly in the background offering his advice and gently reminding us about where our priorities should lie, especially with regard to the elderly and the NHS.
“Our thoughts are very much with Shirley at this very sad time for his family and legions of fans and friends. We’re keeping ‘em peeled, Shaw!”
Our thoughts are with Shaw’s family, friends and colleagues. He’ll be sorely missed by many.
