As part of the reorganisation of education last year, the Isle of Wight Council awarded the responsibility for running two of the new 11-19 schools on the Island to the Island Innovation Trust (IIT).
This Trust is made up of six partners and has the responsibility for setting the aims for its federated schools: Carisbrooke College and Medina College and The VI Form with its campus at Node Hill, Newport.
IIT members represent employers and institutions, including the University of Portsmouth, that have a keen interest in the education of young people and preparing them for further education, employment or training.
Official opening
Last month Island Innovation Trustees, Governors, invited guests, parents, staff and students gathered to enjoy the Opening ceremony of the VI form Campus in Upper St. James’ Street.
Island born actress Shelia Hancock OBE on performing the official opening said of the VI form Campus said, “The building has been imaginatively converted into a pleasant environment for the students. They have room to relax away from the pressure of exams, as well as excellent laboratories and lecture rooms. It will provide a helpful stepping stone between school and university.”
Over a quarter of the current Year 13 students have applied for a place at the University of Portsmouth, of which Sheila is the Chancellor.
