Shoplifter charged after theft of alcohol worth hundreds of pounds

A man has been charged with a number of shoplifting incidents on the Isle of Wight.

A 39-year-old man from Green Street in Ryde, was arrested on 5th December and subsequently charged with the following:

  • Theft from Co-op on Anglesea Street, Ryde, on 4th September. 4 bottles of gin totalling £128 were stolen.
  • Theft from Co-op on Anglesea Street, Ryde, on 9th September. 4 bottles of gin totalling £128 were stolen.
  • Theft from Co-op on Anglesea Street, Ryde, on 9th October. 3 bottles of alcohol totalling £105 were stolen.
  • Theft from Co-op on West Street, Ryde, on 28th November. 5 bottles of wine totalling £41.25 were stolen.
  • Theft from Poundland on High Street, Ryde, on 29th November. £30 worth of batteries were stolen.
  • Theft from WHSmiths on High Street, Ryde, on 30th November. £120 worth of stationery items were stolen.
  • Theft from Sainsbury’s on Union Street, Ryde, on 3rd December. Various items totalling £23.35 were stolen.

The man was remanded in custody to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court today (7th December).
