Ventnor Short and Sweet: The Gardener

Following on from Monday’s post, here’s the next 101 word short story written by a member of the Short and Sweet Writing class.

gardenerThe Gardener

He was a big old man, who worked hard in all weathers. Gumboots, a heavy old coat and a battered hat was his habitual wear. He came in daily for coffee, and it was nice to have his company.

Yesterday he had an accident, cutting his hand badly, and had to be taken to hospital, despite his obstinacy and dislike of fuss. They kept him in.

Today I went to the hospital and tried to find where he was. A doctor came and I asked for ‘Old Jim’. I was told he had died in the night.

Septicaemia.

I miss him.
