Over 50 staff members and Sixth Form students from Cowes Enterprise College are taking part in a Sponsored Cycle for ‘CalAid’ and ‘The Samara’s Aid Appeal’ to raise money for both the Syrian refugees in Calais and those still seeking help in their home country.
Spinning from Syria to Calais
On Monday 28th September, the group will head to Cowes Club (formerly known as Gurnard Pines) to use their spinning equipment to cycle as much as they can of the distance between Syria and Calais as a collective group.
As an academy, we think supporting the Syrians is very rewarding for students as it enables them to gain an insight into the hardships of those involved and also reinforce the idea that we are a school that wants to play a key part in our community.
In doing this, the college is currently a collection point for ‘Calaid’ and ‘The Samara’s Aid Appeal’ and have been taking in donations from across the Island ready to be transported to Calais for the refugees.
Students keen to help
Students have expressed their concern for the refugees and many are very eager to help in whatever way they possibly can.
Lucy Hippolite, 17, said,
“I feel privileged to be representing not only the school but the rest of the island in an event that will no doubt help those in need.”
We are very proud to be part of such a generous and caring community who are supporting our efforts to help the Syrians.
Zoe Divers, Communications Intern at the academy and coordinator of the event, said,
“We are very grateful to Cowes Club for helping us stage the Sponsored Cycle – it will definitely show our students how everyone’s contribution can make such a big difference to those that need our help.”
Details of how you can sponsor the riders will be added to the Official Cowes Enterprise College Facebook page in the next few days.
