This weekend the Solent Inn in Ryde is running a fund-raising music festival to raise money for Help for Heroes.
It kicked off last night and runs through until Sunday night with a regimental finish provided by Bagpipers Aka John Brodie & Friends.
VB spoke to Helen Fastnedge, the landlady at the Solent Inn, who told us that lots of their customers have a background in various forces and they came up with the idea just before Christmas.
“We usually support local charities,” Helen told us, “so it’s not normal for us to do events for National charities.”
People being very generous
Thursday night saw £100 raised in donations and an additional £141 has been added just this afternoon where Navy Ted and Repertoire were recounting stories.
“There’s been a lot of emotion and an abundance of help in us setting up, with people being very generous,” said Helen, “It’s something that touches everyone, even that don’t support the war – our boys and girls out there.”
Their initial estimate of the amount they’d raise was £500 over the weekend. Helen said she’d check back with us on Monday to tell us how it went.
There’s a load of bands playing between now and Sunday, so check out the full details of the Solent Inn Free Music Festival In Aid Of Help for Heroes and try and support them.
